Traveling can be an expensive, especially if you are unprepared. Rooms, meals and entertainment are often expensive in resort areas. Save up before you go.

Before you travel internationally, check the currency exchange rate. With a bad rate you could end up spending more than you planned.

Make sure you have enough to enjoy yourself on the trip without running up a bunch of credit card charges.

Food at restaurants is often priced highly because of real estate, labor, and other direct costs,. When you buy food to cook at home, these overhead costs are reduced.

Fast food or take out also often uses more packaging leading to increased waste and litter.

No matter what your financial state is, it's wise to find some amount of money in your budget to put into an emergency fund every month.

Having money to use for emergencies can keep you out of trouble financially and help you sleep better at night.

If you get into the habit of saving money and treating it as a monthly expense, pretty soon you'll either have money for the emergencies you planned for, or early retirement, a vacation, or a down payment on a home.

Don't just shove this money under your mattress; put it in a high-interest savings account, certificate of deposit, or money market account. Otherwise, inflation will erode the value of your savings.
